People learn by observing things around them. When the telescope and the microscope were invented, people aimed them at different objects, large and small, and discovered a new world that had been hidden from them. A computer program for data analysis is analogous to a telescope or a microscope. We use the program to look at the data set, to reveal the patterns that have been hidden from us, and to derive new insights that would otherwise be beyond our imagination. The computer program (DAMBE) that is promoting in this book is for data analysis in molecular biology, ecology, and evolution. The book is structured in five parts.
